DATUS have been delivering a peer-led advocacy service for people with addiction issues since 2008 and have developed a wealth of skills and experience to support individuals to meet their basic needs, which are a prerequisite to their recovery.
DATUS is always concerned that individuals with complex needs do not get left behind and we provide support to maximise their chances of achieving recovery.
The objective of advocacy is to build and sustain a trusting relationship to represent and support people to address barriers and obstacles to treatment and support.
This process is greatly aided by having an advocate who is in recovery themselves.
If barriers and obstacles to treatment and support are removed it is more likely to improve the individual’s wellbeing and opportunity to recover from problematic drug or alcohol use.
Are you in need of this service?
This service is available to:
- Birmingham residents
- CGL service users
- DATUS mutual aid attendees.
If you are out of area we can put you in touch with relevant service local to you
You will be asked to supply your contact details and a brief outline of the circumstances surrounding your need for an advocate. A decision will be made as to if your case can be taken up and in the event that it is, an advocate assigned. All cases are dealt with on a confidential basis, again, this is a peer-led service and all the people dealing with your case will have personal experience of issues connected with substance misuse.
Thank you DATUS for believing in me and standing at my side. Without this support I would not have a relationship with my youngest children.
